My interest in taking joint supplements started in January of 2006. I was planning to run in the Richmond's Monument 10K and asked a colleague about supplements that could help alleviate some of the joint discomfort I would experience from strenuous exercise. She recommended glucosamine.

I went online, researched the benefits, and decided to purchase six bottles. After two months, my joints stopped cracking when I moved from a squatting to a standing position during my exercise routine. I was able to finish my race in 1:07:10. I plan to run again this year and have been training by running 6 miles every weekend, and using my elliptical machine on weekdays for building endurance. So far, I have not experienced any joint discomfort from my training.

From my initial interest in purchasing glucosamine, I purchased other supplements such as lycopene, lutein, CoQ10, cod liver oil, resveratrol, and multivitamins. Taking supplements and vitamins truly reduced my stress level, sustained my energy, and help with my skin appearance and texture.

My mother came home with a bottle of Omega-3 fatty acid pills. She told me how her chiropractor recommended that she take them to help lubricate her joints, lose weight, and support heart health. At age 15, my right knee was reconstructed due to a serious sports injury. The damage done to the ligaments and cartilage made exercise, gardening and other chores a painful task. I am 67 years old. In 2006, I was diagnosed with age related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness in the older population.
